If I had to use four words to describe this week’s featured blog, I would go with “a very large orange.”
Why such an odd phrase? A distinguished American writer and journalist named Letty Cottin Pogrebin once wrote,
“If the family were a fruit, it would be an orange, a circle of sections, held together but separable – each segment distinct.”
This is the perfect way to describe the family of five cats and three dogs who get along with each other (save for a few squabbles here and there) and, together, maintain a blog called Jan’s Funny Farm. The blog is true to its name, for the eight animals often have us rolling with laughter with their witty banter and playful jokes at their mom’s expense.
Who are these animals?
(Cue the drum roll)
Here’s the story of a lovely lady named Jan, a lady who would do no harm,
Who is bringing up eight very lovely pets on her Funny Farm.
The most golden of them all is a smiling dog named Merci,
Surrounded by five cats named Cameron, Rusty, Cyndi, Cotton, and Percy.
The seventh one is a dog with a unique trait found in so few,
A dog named Sam whose right eye is so blue.
Last, but not least, there’s Buddy, a handsome hound dog who can do no wrong.
Jan’s Funny Farm is where all eight paws join together and blog!
Merci, Cameron, Rusty, Cyndi, Cotton, Percy, Sam, and Buddy use their computer skills and unfaltering teamwork to compose extemporary dialogue, show support of fellow furballs who are ill or in need, post news, or just have fun in the pet blogosphere. Oh, and pick on their doting mom, Jan! She doesn’t mind, right? Who could frown at such cute little furry faces?
Last week, the Funny Farmers had a chance to pick a photo of one of their own to use as a removable pet sticker. They decided to let Jan bear the responsibility of pleasing one pet while disappointing the rest. She ended up choosing their Cousin Andy to be the face on the sticker. The cats and dogs were not happy! Sam’s stink eye says it all! If this is what goes on every day at the Funny Farm, then that big family has never experienced a dull moment.
If you have a twitter account, you’re in luck, because you can follow Jan’s Funny Farm @jansfunnyfarm. They welcome everyone with open paws, because Jan and her eight cats and dogs believe in life, love, and laughter.

Oh, goodness, you had us laughing with tears running. Thank you so much for such a fun and funny review of our blog. We have a lot of fun writing it. Pet bloggers are a great bunch.
We were intrigued by the comparison to an orange. If you see us as “a circle of sections, held together but separable – each segment distinct,” then hopefully we are succeeding in making each member distinct but part of the family.

An “orange” is an interesting way to describe a family. Good analogy!
We’ve been following JFF since we’ve been around the CB, great write-up!
